CHARACTER INFO.
NAME: Peridot
CANON: Steven Universe
AGE: Unknown
APPEARANCE: She has two appearances, really. One, with her "Limb Enhancers" as pictured here. Without the armor, she looks like this. She will be remaining a Gem.
CANON POINT: During the episode "Friend Ship" but before she loses her foot.

BACKGROUND: http://steven-universe.wikia.com/wiki/Peridot

PERSONALITY:

At first glance, Peridot seems to be very serious. As we first see her in Warp Tour, she is seen making a report of her findings on Earth, and is very straightforward in documenting her progress. She also commands a collection of small robots, called Robonoids, during this episode. At first Steven comments that they follow her around like "her babies," she is then seen encountering a slightly broken one, and steps on it to completely destroy it. Her cold reaction is likely typical of "Homeworld" Gems, to think of most other things besides Gems as "tools" or "things to be eliminated", as she also tries to then destroy Steven after speaking with him briefly.

However, as we see more of Peridot and her interactions with other characters, her true personality comes out. She's easily prone to anger and having small fits and temper tantrums when things don't go her way. As we see in Marble Madness, she starts raising her voice to yelling at the Crystal Gems that they keep "destroying her things" when she realizes they are the ones who destroyed the Homeworld warp, as well as were smashing her Plug Robonoids. This kind of hair-trigger anger persists Friend Ship where she throws another fit at the Crystal Gems for their relentless tracking of her. This eventually leads to her actually taking initiative in a way she hadn't before by trying to actually strike back against the Crystal Gems rather than just immediately trying to run away, and attempts to trap them, screaming "DIE DIE DIE DIE" as she fired lasers at their group. It doesn't work in the end, and does once again lead to Peridot running away, but it shows that while she's not a fighter and fighting the Crystal Gems wasn't her original mission, she is willing to put that aside when they really became a thorn in her side. Of course, working alone doesn't seem to be her strong point, and so that little escapade ended in failure, but hey, she tried.

Despite her repeated failures at her missions and against the Crystal Gems, Peridot is known to be very intelligent and resourceful. She works with Gem technology with ease, and is often the one put in charge of doing things related to such. She was also the one tasked with the mission of fixing the warp pads on Earth, as well as to observe some of the experimentations with various gem shards left behind from the war on Earth thousands of years ago. At another point, Steven reveals to Peridot that they are tracking her, and at first she has no idea how, but in a matter of minutes she figures out they were using her escape pod to track her, and formulates a plan to trick and trap the Crystal Gems, successfully.

Peridot also has a tendency to panic when faced with situations she doesn't know how to handle. Upon first getting to Earth via the warp pad she repaired, she notices a sticker Steven had placed on it earlier, and immediately states that the "site may have been compromised" and leaves the area, setting off a timebomb to deactivate any robonoids in the area as well as a precaution. Then when she first encounters the Crystal Gems and they destroy the robotic hands she was using to check the status of the Kindergarden, she panics, saying she's "reporting this" before vanishing on screen. The next time we see her, she has another Gem from Homeworld with her, as an "escort" to handle the Crystal Gems for her, as she doesn't think she can handle them on her own. Soon after that, she loses said escort, she begins to fire off messages to Homeworld that she is stranded and needs help. When this doesn't work, as a last resort she actually goes as far as to kidnap Steven, and try to get him to repair the broken warp pad from Warp Tour. This too doesn't work, and her reaction is to panic further, curl up into a ball, and start biting her "fingers" and scratch at her head while whining.

This action leads to her being finally captured by the Crystal Gems and her Limb Enhancers are taken away, essentially making her defenseless and revealing she's actually… quite small, by comparison to other Gems. It's been pretty much an unspoken rule so far that the bigger and taller a Gem is, the more powerful they are, with Lapis Lazuli as an exception. When she's brought back to Steven's house/the Crystal Gem's base, she immediately assumes everything around her is a threat, while still having a bratty attitude, and tries to make her way to freedom. She doesn't get very far with those stumpy legs and winds up locking herself in the bathroom. How does one exactly cower in a bathroom while still acting like a total brat and bragging about how she has information they need, and then threatening the people she's hiding from? Pure skill, apparently.

On a completely different hand, while she hates losing or being annoyed, she's also pretty annoying and cocky herself. Peridot tends to be a fan of going "HA! YOU MISSED!" when she manages to dodge or run away, and also has a habit of laughing maniacally when things are going her way- but maybe that's just because she's really beginning to hate the Crystal Gems and being stuck on Earth. Either way, she likes to repeatedly state her successes and about how smart she is, as well as throw in lines about how stupid the other gems are, even though she has yet to land a real successful victory. Maybe she's just trying to make herself feel a little better about being stuck, alone, on a foreign planet, with no communication or technology to her Homeworld.

Summary: small bratty baby.

ABILITIES: (Most of this is covered on the wiki page I linked earlier, but I'll go over some of this just to be on the safe side.)

As a Gem, Peridot has certain inherent powers that every Gem possesses: shapeshifting, fusion, bubbling, weapon-summoning, shape-shifting, regeneration, super strength and durability.

All Gems are capable of shape-shifting their physical forms, from complete shape to different outfits. Gems also gain energy and power from their gem, and thus don't need to eat or sleep to survive. Due to their natural state as a gemstone, they are essentially immortal, as long as their gemstone remains undamaged. When a Gem's physical form is damaged, they will retreat to their gemstone form to regenerate their physical form and heal. But when a Gem's gemstone is damaged or cracked, they will lose their physical form as well as lose their sentience and will. Gems are also superhumanly strong and durable (which is not surprising, considering they are SPACE ROCKS), capable of surviving explosions (and crash landings, in Peridot's case) with minimal damage.

Without her armor/limb enhancers, Peridot has no extra powers. She might inherently have some she doesn't know about, but as far as we know, she doesn't.

WITH her armor, she has Electrokinesis (the ability to generate and manipulate electrical currents), Interface Creation, and being able to manipulate her armor's body's parts individually.

Her electrokinesis includes being capable of shocking via touch, and being able to fire electricity in beams from her arm canon (think like megaman). She can also use her electrokinesis to manipulate her own magnetism so that she is capable of scaling walls easily. However, she isn't invulnerable to that same electricity, and can still be shocked by it if it's sent back her way.

Another ability she is seen using is Interface Creation, which she uses to do various tasks like: record audio/video logs, command Robonoids, control her spaceship, and read information. The interface she reads from is formed from the fingers of her armored hand, as they are detached and floating by her arm rather than joined by a physical palm and wrist. Which leads to...

Peridot is able to manipulating her armor's body parts! As seen from just her character design, you can see her fingers on both hands float near the arm rather than are physically joined. She uses those fingers to summoner interfaces to interact with technology, as well as uses them to rotate quickly into a helicopter-like form of transportation, which she frequently uses for escaping. She also is seen at one point, detaching her own foot easily at the press of a button on her ankle. So basically, she's in an Iron Man-like body suit.

INVENTORY: Her "Limb Enhancers," as previously mentioned in the appearance and abilities section. They work as her armor and her weapon, so that's all she should need.
